The Johannesburg Succulent Society hosted the "JSS Succulent Fest" in October. This was its first Spring Show since 2019!
One of the highlights of JSS Succulent Festivals is a judged Show of Succulents. Come and feast your eyes on these Show Plants, and interact with fellow water-wise plant enthusiasts whenever a show is being held.
For the first time, the 2021 event also featured small landscaped succulent gardens (set up by some of the commercial growers and landscaping class), to inspire and provide "living examples" to visitors, as how to garden with succulents and indigenous plants.
We will have Food stalls and a wide variety of plants for Sale for those who are interested. The Society proudly showcases individual, specialist growers of the most unusual succulents, as well as the every day varieties.
This is the largest Succulent event in the West Rand.
For Shows at the WSNBG, Normal entrance fees to the WSBG apply. A ticket will give you access to the entire Botanical Gardens.
For Shows at the Botanical Gardens Floreum, access may be free.
The JSS is a non-profit club dedicated to promoting the knowledge, love, preservation and use of succulents.

Plant Shows are normally held 6 monthly, during the spring and autumn flowering peak periods. Shows are constantly reconsidered, and we hope that Covid-19 restrictions will allow us to have another show during spring.
Strict Covid-19 protocols are adhered to at all our Plant Shows
There are several parts to our Shows:
The display of specimen plants, with judging and information.
The Sale of plants by vendors, both commercial and member growers.
The sellers are free with advice as to how to grow and care for the plants you may want to purchase.
Plant Shows are advertised on all platforms. They are communicated to members and non members through the incredibly informative Society's Newsletter, which is emailed monthly. Be sure to check your Inbox or the Johannesburg Succulent Society's facebook page and join us at our renowned Plant Sales.
Now, we all know that succulents are some of the most economical and water friendly plants to have in our gardens, but, how many of us actually know how to care for them or which ones to buy for our homes? Visit the Plant Show and Plant Sale to find out! There will be a huge selection of succulents to choose from, as the Succulent Society promises to deliver the biggest variety of indigenous succulents and exotic cacti on show. This is definitely the best place to purchase your next succulent for your garden or a rare plant for your loved collection.
As always, members are the life of the Show, selling some of their own precious plants, purchasing plants they have always wanted and encouraging their friends and families to attend the sale. It is a hub of activity with our members fostering friendships and conversing about all manner of plants. Exchanging news and fascinating fact at a Show is similar to Club Nights, but on steroids! The Johannesburg Succulent Society also uses the plant sale as a vehicle to recruit new plant-lovers to the Society.
